Continuo presents its program surrounding music and science. The fact that these two go hand in hand is proven not only by the considerable number of scientifically oriented alumni in our orchestra, but also by the prevalence of composers who did science! Or should we call them scientists who also composed?
Charles Ives gives voice to the 'unanswered question' in his piece and shows us that, despite our attempts, we will never be able to answer all questions. Next, Antheil takes us in tow with his music for the ballet 'Capital of the World'. Not only was he co-inventor of the concept 'frequency hopping', which is at the base of modern communication technology, but he also gained notoriety as 'bad boy of music' when he dragged airplane propellers onto the stage. Finally, a few well-known 'hits' by Borodin - composer and respected chemist - will stay with you for weeks to come.

Programme:

  • Alexander Borodin - Overture and Polovtsian dances from Prince Igor
  • Alexander Borodin - In the Steppes of Central Asia
  • Charles Ives - The Unanswered Question with trumpet soloist Antal Nagy
  • George Antheil - Capital of the World Suite
